Learn the Host Language
Although you may not be fluent in your host country's language, it's important to learn a few basic phrases so you can navigate the city, communicate with your hosts, and make new friends.  Here are some language learning resources that you can access before you leave and while you're abroad:
 
  • Mango Languages - As a UT Dallas student, you have free access to this online language learning software through the Eugene McDermott Library.   • Duolingo - Duolingo is one of the top mobile apps for language learning, offering interactive lessons in 33 languages.  You can download Duolingo onto your mobile device through the App Store or Google Play (free with in-app purchases), or you can access Duolingo online at https://www.duolingo.com/.

  • Busuu - Busuu is a social networking website and global language learning community, allowing users to interact with native speakers from all over the world. You can download Busuu onto your mobile device through the App Store or Google Play (free with in-app purchases), or you can access Busuu online at https://www.busuu.com/.

  • Memrise - This mobile app focuses on quick memorization, offering brief lessons in 20 languages. You can download Memrise onto your mobile device through the App Store or Google Play (free with in-app purchases), or you can access Memrise online at https://www.memrise.com/.
