Program Overview New Program Overview
This program will include class sessions prior to an 8-day faculty-led study abroad trip to the Dominican Republic. The course will conclude with two class sessions following the trip. Students will earn 3 credit hours under SOC prefix (SOC 4396). The course will provide an opportunity to gain knowledge of sociological concepts, theories and processes that guide program development and social policy related to improved education, community development and economic independence. In the Dominican Republic, students will be engaged in a service learning project, working side by side with local community members on health concerns, youth education and mentoring.  The course will also focus on leadership development and intercultural relations.
