About City Academic Program
The core elements of the academic program at International Summer University include:
  • German Language Course: Start learning German from scratch or improve the language skills you already have.  The language class will take place every morning from 9am until 11am and will include small group classroom sessions as well as authentic language learning experiences.
  • Academic Seminars: Seminars are offered in a variety of subject areas, including History, Politics, Society, and Culture.  Two seminars are included in the program fee.
  • German Politics and History Course: This supplemental course will provide additional insight into the topics discussed in the main academic seminar offerings.
To complement classroom studies, students will also participate in at least two cultural field trips.  In the past, field trips have taken place in Frankfurt, Strasbourg, and Kassel.

Housing Housing
All accepted students have a single room reserved in one of the university dormitories. Marburg has a historical center with mostly small, traditional houses, lots of which are protected as historical buildings - therefore there is little space to accommodate a large number of students right there.  That is why the dorms are situated outside the center and can easily be reached by local bus. All ISU students will be provided with a bus pass on the arrival day.
For more information, visit the Accommodations webpage.
Student Visa Student Visa
Depending on nationality and length of stay, students accepted to study at Philipps-Universität Marburg may or may  not need to obtain a visa prior to their arrival in Germany.  In the past, citizens of the US, Canada, Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand have been able to enter Germany as a tourist, i.e. with only their passport. This tourist visa is valid for 90 days.

Since visa rules and regulations change frequently, consult the nearest German embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date information.
For more information, visit the Student Visa webpage.
Testimonials Student Testimonials
  • "The ISU experience was truly enriching.  It enabled me to meet people from all over the world.  With different cultures, histories, and perspectives, it really opened my mind to the potential the world has to offer but also the challenges that remain."
  • "Do it and if you can - do it twice!  What an experience!  There are so many lessons to be learned from traveling and living in a new country, albeit for a short period of time...This is an experience you will fondly remember five, ten, twenty years down the line."
