Student Visas
Exchange students will need to consult the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country to apply for a student visa. The X1 or X2 visa will be required, depending on the length of study.
Cost of Living
Living costs will vary depending on individual lifestyle expectations. A basic student budget is estimated to be RMB 2,500 (per month) including meals, transport, laundry and education expenses for books and stationery.

Southeast University (SEU) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in China, whose origin can be traced back to 1902. The university has three main campuses and offers a wide range of disciplines with engineering as its focus.

Southeast University prides itself on being a comprehensive, research-oriented, and internationalized institution for higher education. SEU boasts a total number of faculty and staff of approximately 2700, including 1800 professors and associate professors. The university has also welcomed over 2000 international students from 100 countries and often invites foreign experts and teachers for lecturing, cooperative research, and academic exchanges.

Southeast University is located at the center of the ancient capital city of Nanjing, a sacred place for education since the Ming Dynasty, and the second largest commercial center in the East China region, behind only Shanghai. As the capital of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing is one of the important industrial bases in East China, accounting for about 1% of the country total in terms of gross industrial capability.

Nanjing is also a city full of vigor and opportunities and offers a window for you to get a glimpse of real China. The city is full of historic sites and natural beauties, including the Ming Xialing Mausoleum, Niushou Mountain, and Qixia Temple.

Southeast University has developed into a comprehensive university, boasting 29 schools or departments with 75 undergraduate disciplines in all. Students can choose courses from a wide range of subject areas, including engineering, science, humanities, and social sciences. Grades are often assessed through classroom participation, performance, homework, quizzes, midterm exams, and a final examination.

Housing Icon Housing
Reading Housing Exchange students may choose to live in the international students’ dormitories, which are scattered across all three campuses. The room facilities generally include air conditioning, furnishings, Internet access, and a shared restroom. Some dormitories also include a small shared kitchen, although exchange students can choose to have meals in the school cafeteria or nearby restaurants.
